National Leaders tell Hoosiers for Life that House Speaker Brian Bosma plans to kill bills protecting the unborn this coming legislative session.
Hoosiers for Life is concerned about the news. Executive Director, Amy Schlichter, stated this morning, “As much as I would love to shrug this off as just a common opinion, it is quite believable. Last year, prior to the legislative session, Speaker Bosma made it clear he didn’t want to deal with protecting babies in the womb.”
Bosma’s famous comment from last session sparked a fire in the pro-life community. He said, “We deal with these every session…You guys ought to be focusing on the stuff that’s really important.”
This was coupled with a daring statement from our newly elected Governor stating he also would not be focused on Indiana’s preborn babies: “I will be squarely focused on our legislative agenda. That’s what I’ll be focused on, not potential bills that aren’t related to taking this state to the next level.”
Hoosiers for Life is the primary promoter of Rep. Curt Nisly’s Protection at Conception Bill which would treat babies in the womb like all other children, and that was no interest to Indiana Leadership. Schlichter explains, “As much as I would like to say we are surprised…we are not. The lack of leadership in our state for the preborn is evident and has been for quite some time.”
