Another Political Pawn: A 1,154-Page Slap in a President’s Face – by Jim Bratten

Jim Bratten

Nothing changes in the frustrating fight to secure our southern border. Democrats in Congress and their progressive public communication handlers, the Propaganda Press, want open borders and amnesty for over 22 million illegal aliens who shouldn’t be here. Anti-Trump Republican establishment types sit and twiddle their thumbs while our unsecured borders are violated with impunity by those who wish to suck off the prosperity produced by those who build our nation. Neither side really cares about the ramifications of their legislative sloth.

Democrats want our demography, language, and culture severely altered; Republicans owned by the Chamber of Commerce simply want cheap labor so their campaigns are funded and their careers remain intact. They could care less about what that does to those already working and living here. To both factions, citizens of foreign nations rate higher consideration than do Americans, born or naturalized.

A nationwide exit poll of 1,000 actual voters conducted by Zogby Analytics last Election Day confirmed the broad support President Trump enjoys with American voters concerning his immigration policies; 88% believing that immigration is a “problem” or “serious problem” and 72% stating a candidate’s stance on immigration influenced their vote. Signature Trump policies such as mandatory E-Verify and a secure border wall are widely popular among his Republican base, and are also broadly supported by Independent voters and a significant number of moderate Democrats (55% of whom are for mandatory E-Verify).

But none of this seems to matter.

Of illegal aliens detained by ICE in 2018, 88% had committed crimes over and above the two crimes they committed coming here. For the fourth straight month, apprehensions of illegals at our southern border have topped 60,000. In 2018, ICE arrested 160,000 criminal illegals, the highest number in four years. Among their resumes in crime was discovered: 54,630 convictions for drunk driving; 29,987 convictions for assault; 9,834 convictions for burglary; 4,423 convictions for robbery; 3,740 convictions for sexual assault; and 1,294 convictions for kidnapping. The flow of criminals across our southern border remains constant and is encouraged by a lack of border security. No; there’s obviously no “border crisis” here.

Fast-forward to 2019 with one government shutdown already past us and another threatened if Trump doesn’t sign a bloated budget bill with border security funding once more treated as a stepchild.

The “Border Security Agreement” – a so-called “bipartisan” border compromise to handcuff and stymie the president on the immigration “wall” issue but keep the federal government open – leaves a lot to be desired. At 1,154 pages, the “budget bill” that dropped with a thud on February 13 is a study in national security ignorance. Another bucket of Swamp waste and overspending, it is primarily a disrespectful slap in the president’s face, peppered liberally with “land mines.” Section 224 is basically a de facto amnesty for illegal minors and their sponsors. In over 300 places, rules restrict or hinder border security actions, essentially tying the president’s hands and also those of DHS and the CBP.

Trump will sign it under duress (a no-win situation) while at the same time declaring a “national emergency” so he can secure the border with $8 billion in funds from alternate sources. He will get a wall done.

It’s tragic that immigration is simply a political pawn for Democrats; to subvert a president – and nation – they despise.
