Finding Solutions: President Trump Goes it Alone… Again – by Jim Bratten

Jim Bratten

President Trump knows he can’t count on Congress for solutions to our illegal alien invasion, caravans or no, and he also knows he cannot expect any common sense reforms from either party. Again, he’ll go it alone. Congress refuses to solve the “border crisis,” its constitutional responsibility under the law, due to its allegiance to the Chamber of Commerce and the progressive ideology of open borders. So our president is forced to negotiate with a foreign government to stop the invasion by illegals.

Southern border apprehensions are at a seven-year high – 144,278 arrested in May, up 32% since April and nearly triple May, 2018. Last month was the CBP’s (Customs and Border Protection) busiest in 13 months.

Before leaving for Great Britain and the ceremony to honor our D-Day heroes at Normandy, Trump issued this statement: “The sustained influx of illegal aliens has profound consequences on every aspect of our national life; overwhelming our schools, overcrowding our hospitals, draining our welfare system, and causing untold amounts of crime.” He then announced his plan to impose tariffs on Mexico if they didn’t stop the flow of illegals pouring through their country, heading to the U.S.

Andreś Manuel López Obrador, the Mexican president and a younger version of Bernie Sanders, responded: “The Statue of Liberty is not an empty symbol… With all respect, even though you have the sovereign right to say it, the slogan ‘America First’ is a fallacy because even until the end of time, justice and universal fraternity will prevail above national borders.” Despite the fact that the Statue of Liberty has nothing to do with an illegal alien invasion, he delivered his sarcasm like a true socialist, in full agreement with Pope Francis, the Democrat Party, and 90% of the Propaganda Press.

When 1,000 illegal aliens were apprehended in one day, Memorial Day, and another 1,000 walked across the border en masse at El Paso, Texas a few days later, Democrats and progressive Republicans showed little concern. The CBP commissioner called it a “full-blown emergency.” But Congress thinks “we are the world” trumps national sovereignty and American citizens’ welfare. Illegal aliens come first.

Despite the vulgar epithets from the Left, laughing at “tariff diplomacy,” and Republican establishment confusion, Mexico has agreed to Trump’s “deal” on our southern border. To avoid Trump’s escalating tariff threat, Mexico will:

• deploy 6,000 Mexican National Guard troops to their Guatemalan border
• allow “migrants” waiting on U.S. asylum claims to wait in Mexico
• provide job opportunities to “migrants”
• stop human smuggling and trafficking
• take further actions if needed…

Mexico may avoid the June 10 tariff threat of 5%, but are any of us really expecting Mexico to hold fast to all of these promises? Trump said the 5% tariff will be suspended “indefinitely,” but he didn’t mention anything about the 10% tariff set for July 1, the 15% tariff on August 1, the 20% tariff due on September 1, or the 25% tariff scheduled for October 1. If Mexico doesn’t deliver, tariffs can still be imposed.

Trump’s tariffs are levers to induce compliance and they will work. Foreign nations who deal with the U.S. know we now have a president who keeps his word and does what he promises. Bank on it.

The Republican establishment needs to get on board and learn what “leverage” means. President Trump will find a solution to our border insanity, with or without assistance from the Swamp creatures.
