The Adoption Option – by Jim Arnold

I am not normally a fan of bumper stickers, but I recently spied a particularly promising placard proudly pasted on the posterior of a pickup truck, which demonstrated the marvelous metamorphosis from “ABORTION” to “ADOPTION”, easily accomplished by replacing the “B” with a “D” and trading the “R” for the letter “P”.

And though transforming “abortion” to “adoption” in the real world is not as easy as swapping a couple of consonants, Representative Curt Nisly made it possible when he introduced the Protection at Conception bill at the Indiana Statehouse.

Consider that the 1973 Roe versus Wade ruling was predicated on the false premise that what is conceived in the womb is not human life, whereas Indiana Statute IC 16-34-2-1.1 confirms that life begins at conception.

The Protection at Conception bill would dismantle abortion using the Supreme Court’s own language coupled with Indiana’s own code.  All we need to end abortion in Indiana is legislators with the courage to pass the Protection at Conception Bill.

And though keeping the baby is always the first and best choice, some mother’s facing unplanned pregnancies may be unprepared to raise their precious but unplanned person.

Adoption offers a viable alternative, but sadly adoption is much more complicated and expensive than necessary.

Consequently, we need pro-life legislators with the foresight to simplify the adoption process, minimize the cost, and eliminate the delay, so that some of the 8,000 Hoosier babies rescued from abortion can be adopted by loving couples who are unable to conceive.
