Founded by the Faithful – by Jim Bratten

“God who gave us life gave us liberty. And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are of the gift of God? That they are not to be violated but by His wrath? Indeed, I tremble for my county when I reflect that God is just; that His justice cannot sleep forever.” ~ Thomas Jefferson, Query XVIII of his Notes on that State of Virginia, 1781

“We have staked the whole future of American civilization, not upon the power of government, far from it. We’ve staked the future of all our political institutions upon our capacity… to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God.” ~ James Madison, to the General Assembly of the State of Virginia, 1778

“God governs in the affairs of man. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without His aid? We have been assured in the Sacred Writings that except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it. I firmly believe this. I also believe that, without His concurring aid, we shall succeed in this political building no better than the builders of Babel.” ~ Benjamin Franklin, at the Constitutional Convention of 1787

Despite the faith of our learned Founders, school districts continue to persecute the faithful, denying the obvious: our nation was founded on faith in God. In 2015, a Bremerton, Washington school district ordered Coach Joe Kennedy to stop his silent post-game prayers of thanks after each game he coached. They fired him.

The Supreme Court has sided with Coach Kennedy: “Respect for religious expressions is indispensable to life in a free and diverse Republic—whether those expressions take place in a sanctuary or on a field, and whether they manifest through the spoken word or a bowed head.”
