Last week President Donald Trump proclaimed the obvious as U.S. policy: Jerusalem is the capital of Israel. It has been for millennia, since the time of David when Israelis were called Israelites.

Trump will move the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, as stated in the Jerusalem Embassy Act of 1995, passed 93 to 7 by the U.S. Senate. He’s the first president not to waive it. The diplomatic sidestep by presidents is over.
