Local Media Bias Exposed – Letter to the Editor

Letter To The Editor:

A current story that has been growing by the day is the battle concerning the Library Trustee Board’s unilateral decision to make Evansville Vanderburgh County Libraries participate in the nationwide initiative to establish a Drag Queen Story Hour.

On one side, there are the concerned citizens of Evansville and Vanderburgh County. They are made up of parents who are upset that this appointed board would target their children for what they see as an inappropriate event for children.

They are made up of concerned Christians, non-Christians and other family members upset that this is being put on by the library using tax payer dollars to further an anti-Christian and anti-traditional family stance that will ultimately cause more damage to the community than good. And there are those who are also upset that the appointed board of Library Trustees would lie in the faces of the public in the attempt to push this program through.

On the other side, we have the local LGBTTQQIAAPFAH (I’ll stop here for the sake of brevity), the Tri-State Alliance, the Library Board of Trustees that sparked this battle, and surprisingly: the local media.

In a time when there is a general scorn concerning who trusts the media, and who doesn’t, both sides accusing the other of bias and ignorance, it is not surprising to see our local media do the same.

There is currently a video of WEHT’s Brandon Bartlett covering a group of the concerned citizens who showed up to support Councilman Elpers, who has recently come under fire for his vocal stance against the Drag Queen Story Hour, and its targeted “grooming” of young children.

Bartlett approached a woman (who came out of no where, grabbed two signs, and wasn’t even a part of the actual group), and attempted to interview her, but when others of the group attempted to direct him to the spokesman of the group, he seized his opportunity to spin the story in a less-than-honest fashion.

The story was instantly that the group “silenced” the woman from speaking out.

Never mind that the “silenced lady” was shouting expletives against the LGBT community which is completely contrary to the nature and position of this group of concerned citizens. Never mind that the leaders of the group corrected her, saying, “We don’t do that here. We are to be respectful.” Never mind that any and all businesses that have ever dealt with the public have an official policy that states there are specific people who will handle the media. Many clubs and associations have this policy as well, so as to make certain that no one attempts to derail the overall message of the group or organization.

Mr. Bartlett, a member of the media, should know full well of this fact, and to spin his story in such a way so as to detract from the overall story of what is really going on, and to thus paint the Elpers supporters in a bad light is appalling, but right on par with how many Americans are viewing the mainstream media outlets.

I, personally, know nothing of Mr. Bartlett, but this video and his coverage of it made me wonder what type of fellow he was, so I checked out his Facebook page. There, I found the source of his bias. Mr. Bartlett appears to have forgotten to remove two groups from his Facebook Groups membership list from his time at University in New York… those Pages being the NYC Gay Nightlife, and the Gay Indie/Alternative/Classic Rock.

Further digging reveals that Mr. Bartlett has written numerous articles covering issues for the LGBTQFAH community, every one of which is prominently run in the local “Tri-State Alliance” Newsletter.

Perhaps he is always on such coverage due to his ‘special interests’, but the media outlet he works for should have reigned him in to report the news, not spin it to suit said interests.

Mr. Bartlett may be openly gay to his family, his friends, and his coworkers. I don’t know, nor will I pretend to know.

However, as a consumer of news of the local area, watching him hound concerned local citizens in a news story, using his position in the media to further a special interest group’s agenda, and then finding out why? THAT is appalling, and it is the reason why so many have accepted the notion that the mainstream media cannot be trusted.

This is so right on. And not to leave out the fact that one of the news media approached me sticking the mic in my face badgering me and trying to make me say something. If I remember correctly, when shoving the mic in my face he said, “Why won’t the leader of this group let anyone speak?” And when I said that I had nothing to say, he shoved the mic and almost hit my mouth with it, saying “Why won’t he let you speak?”. That’s when one of the guys came to my rescue and told him to leave me alone.

  2. The Library, Politicians, media and all those that allowed this vote (EVSC) are assaulting women, men, children, and God.

“For years now I have suspected that the androgynous agenda has been an attack on
women even before the topic of ‘transgender’ became mainstream. I always thought how the characters the MTF’s became, were almost a satire of what real biological women act like. I always thought it ironic that simultaneously feminism was and is still teaching biological women to think and behave like men.

In 2016 when the great bathroom debate was going on it became abundantly clear that the relationship society was now expected to have with the trans community would be completely one-sided. We the people are expected to comply and capitulate to every demand, whim and feeling the Trans community would have while they do not have to concern themselves with any hesitation, concern or disagreement of ours. They get away with this, almost hostage situation they have with the populace because they have established themselves as the victim.

The most effective way to bully and control someone is to do it as a victim. The trans community has done exactly this. They have destroyed reputations, careers. They have forced their way into women’s bathrooms sports beauty pageants awards. The list goes on and on. This community has made so many strides and have gained so much ground in just the last few years alone that at this rate society will have a new sense of what normalcy, justice, morality is. In just a short span of time all because we have been programmed to put trans people’s feelings or experiences above all….”

  4. Isn’t the Drag Queen Story Hour part of this? It’s more and more apparent.
