A New York Times headline read: “America’s Cities Are Unlivable. Blame Wealthy Liberals.” The article noted that, “…demise of a California housing measure shows how progressives abandon progressive values in their own backyards,” referring to uncontrolled homeless populations in the major cities of that state all run, coincidentally, by Democrats.
But is that true? It seems to me that progressives are maintaining their “values” (if they can be called that). Law breaking is rewarded with no fine and no punishment, as progressives prefer, for those “favored.”
San Francisco provides the perfect example. In that city, if your dog leaves feces on a public sidewalk you are fined $300. If a homeless person defecates on the same sidewalk, city officials simply shrug. No problem; no penalty – no responsibility. Absence of basic human hygiene is excused for those who are deprived. It’s so egregious, some concerned citizens in that progressive paradise provide maps, so visitors can avoid areas of the city where homeless “deposits” are the worst.
Data from Los Angeles County speaks for the progressives’ success in thinning out the population; deaths of the homeless are up 76% from 2014 (522 deaths) to 2018 (918 deaths), according to Kaiser Health, Inc. Vermin populations are spreading in LA due to filth from the expansion of homelessness. This brings contagious diseases, but it’s not just the homeless who are spreading the contagion…
The large influx of people crossing our southern border has led to a rapid increase in infectious diseases. CBP (Customs and Border Protection) has caught large numbers of illegals from Brazil and Congo in the caravans, carrying diseases no longer common in the U.S. Many nearly eradicated diseases have staged a comeback: TB (tuberculosis); scarlet fever; mumps; measles; whooping cough; and the bubonic plague (carried by rats) have reappeared, courtesy of refugees and aliens entering the United States illegally. TB, typhus, and the bubonic plague are present in Los Angeles and measles, once nearly extinct here, is making a comeback in cities besides LA. The measles outbreak, over 1,000 cases so far, is the worst in 27 years, according to the CDC (Center for Disease Control).
Currently, the CDC is not screening illegal aliens for communicable infectious diseases even though some illegals come from African nations ravaged by the Ebola virus. Increases of Somalis, Angolans, Nigerians, and other African nationalities have been apprehended crossing the U.S. southern border, bringing disease. And the CDC only requires vaccination records for those immigrants applying for migrant visas legally. Nothing is required for the hundreds of thousands crossing our borders illegally every month.
Unfortunately for California, one-third of all illegal aliens residing within U.S. are present in that state, welcomed with open arms and encouraged to come by the new governor, Gavin Newsom, who actually campaigned on an open borders platform. If you make the offer, they will come.
And soon the chaos will get worse…
California plans for the expansion of its Medi-Cal (Medicaid) state health care system to cover illegal aliens – but only the “lower income” young, between the ages of 19 and 25. The older illegals can fend for themselves. When signed into law, the plan will take effect in January, 2020, covering 90,000 illegals at a yearly cost of $98 million to Californians.
California’s progressive “values” are being implemented, not abandoned.
