The SIA Problem: Islamic Numbers Increasing at the Border – by Jim Bratten

Jim Bratten

Several years ago, Judicial Watch uncovered the fact that radical Islamists (Islamic terrorists) were entering the U.S. through our southern border with Mexico.

A recent U.S. military intelligence report revealed that more than 30,000 illegal aliens who entered the U.S. through our southern border were from nations of “terrorist concern,” yet the DHS shows little interest and Congress even less.

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents routinely encounter aliens from terrorist nations at the U.S. border and have noted significant increases since the advent of the Left’s caravan strategy. In a report made public in January by the DHS titled, Stopping Terrorist Travel Through Illicit Pathways to the Homeland, House Homeland Security Committee investigators found large increases in SIAs (Special Interest Aliens) from countries in the Middle East, Asia and Africa. A 300% increase in aliens from Bangladesh, a well-known recruiting center for Islamic State and al-Qaida Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) jihadists, was found in the Laredo, Texas sector.

Investigators discovered that the major increase in SIAs traveling north through Central American countries to the U.S. was due to transnational criminal organizations (TCOs) supplying drug smuggling and human trafficking routes to organizers.

Judicial Watch revealed that Panamanian officials told House Homeland Security Committee staffers, “tens of thousands of SIAs have entered Panama since 2014.” The Committee’s report also stated, “Colombian officials communicated similar numbers to Committee staff, stating that hundreds of SIAs have entered Columbia each year for the past few years. In both countries, nearly all the SIA migrants were headed to the United States and originated from the Middle East, Asia and Africa – including Syria, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Somalia, Bangladesh, India, Eritrea, and other countries. Additionally, encounters with these special interest individuals resulted in the seizure of tens of thousands of fraudulent documents – including passports and visas – that facilitated travel from their countries of origin to the Americas.”

Last year, federal agents arrested a Jordanian national who had smuggled six Yemenis into the U.S. Residing in Mexico, Mohammad Aldairi conspired with others to get the Yemenis across the Texas border, according to a DOJ report last July.

State Department records show that “Arab extremists” enter the U.S. from Mexico. Among them is a top al-Qaida operative wanted by the FBI, Adnan el Shukrijumah, who has planned several bomb attacks in the U.S., including the detonation of several nuclear devices in our cities. Even though he’s on the FBI’s wanted list, he continues to travel back and forth across the border to meet radical Islamists in Texas. How?

Another known jihadist, an operative of the Islamic State and Kuwaiti national named Shaykh Mahmood Omar Khabir, regularly crosses our border. He has trained hundreds of al-Qaida fighters in the Middle East and Mexican drug traffickers have helped him enter the U.S. for years. How?

These are only three who “import” Islamist radicals into America. Others are Pakistanis with al-Qaida ties; Somali members of al-Shabab and Al-Barakat; and a Lebanese recruiter and fundraiser for Hezbollah.

Which raises an additional concern reported by Judicial Watch: “Hezbollah is ‘growing at an alarming rate in Latin America,’ according to Committee investigators.” Hezbollah is a Foreign Terrorist Organization, “operating in Latin America since the early 1990s when it worked with Iran to carry out the 1994 bombing of a Jewish Community Center in Argentina.”

Then there’s the directive from the Obama White House to the DEA to “lay off” Hezbollah’s drug operations in Central America, so John Kerry could “close the Iran Nuclear Deal.” How can we stop murderous Islamists if we ignore them?
