Weak Knees? Stop Hugging the ‘Process,’ Mitch – by Jim Bratten

When Democrat impeachment managers showed up at the U.S. Senate the week of January 20, why did Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell allow the Democrats to turn the U.S. Senate into a three-day “outrage stage” for the DNC?

“Everyone must hear their case,” said McConnell, stretching his hand of “fairness” out to Democrats. The problem was that the Democrats did not have a “case.”

There is no need for “fairness” with Democrats that have built a conspiracy to illegally unseat a duly-elected president. But Mitch offered them a 24-hour stage anyway, three days on the Senate floor, to rant about their illusions of impeachment, when what they actually produced in the House is patently unconstitutional and needed to be dismissed out of hand. It’s a fraud upon our republic and shouldn’t have been entertained as legitimate. It didn’t need to be “heard.” Even a Democrat senator, Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut, called it a “fact-free summation of a case, bereft of evidence. We need to call witnesses to supply some evidence.”

After Democrat prosecutors presented their case, it should have ended there, since it was an empty case. No crime was stated; no witnesses had testified to any crime in the House hearings; and there was no evidence of a crime – none. The president’s defense team eviscerated the prosecution, so radical Democrats were reduced to begging for “new” witnesses and “new” documents. Their last-ditch hope was discovery.

So prosecutors approached the defense and demanded they assist the prosecution to further develop their incomplete findings of guilt. The defense must help the prosecution admit new witnesses and heretofore undiscovered documents.

Why didn’t Republicans pick up on this? A Democrat senator admitted they had no case and no evidence, therefore a trial was moot. Incredulously, two Republicans agreed to help their “friends” make their case, voting to call witnesses to prolong the trial for additional weeks, and even months. This was insane – a trial with no reason to exist. Yet Republican Senate leadership allowed the farce to land on the Senate floor.

President Trump has done nothing unlawful, nothing impeachable. The president did not “get caught.” How can you be accused of “getting caught” when you did nothing wrong? No Republican to my knowledge has objected in the Senate to this fallacy, this false premise, on the record. Some may state their disappointment or dismay to pundits on cable news, but not one has spoken out on the Senate floor.

After the razor-thin 51-49 vote on Friday to deny additional witnesses to the beleaguered Democrat prosecutors, Mitch McConnell demurred to Democrats and didn’t call for the vote to acquit on Saturday. As a favor to Chuck Schumer, Mitch allowed the Democrat presidential candidates twiddling their thumbs in the Senate to return to the campaign trail, since Iowa’s caucuses are Monday – today. However, Mitch failed to close the lid on the Democrats’ box of plagues that they have unleashed since Pelosi’s impeachment farce began last September. He didn’t move when he had the votes to lock up the acquittal; he didn’t strike when the iron was hot. For Mitch, it wasn’t in the process.

Now we wait until Wednesday at 4 p.m. (EST) for a vote to acquit, after enduring two more days of narcissistic speeches and chest thumping – totally unnecessary. But the “jury” is out, and the demented prosecution is free to stir more confusion and invent more false narratives.

The circus has been allowed to continue; one cheap, political ruse after another, with the cheerleaders in the press salivating over every salacious rumor put forth by Democrats. Will McConnell have the guts to shut it off, or will he be enthralled by the process he enjoys so much? Or is he afraid of ticking off his “esteemed colleagues” across the aisle?
