Weaponizing Disease: ‘Never Let a Crisis Go to Waste.’ – by Jim Bratten

From late January through early March, 2020 the most repetitive phrase in U.S. media has been, “This could become an opportunity for Democrats.”

In this 2019-2020 flu season we can expect 40,000 people to die from the common flu virus (influenza). Every year, about 60 million Americans contract it.

How can the advent of the Wuhan virus, strain #19 (COVID-19) in a family of common viruses known as “corona viruses,” be an “opportunity for Democrats,” when 40,000 deaths per year in the U.S. from various influenza strains is not? The answer is: Donald Trump.

This was seen at YahooNews.com, February 27: “Coronavirus: Donald Trump’s Very Own Hurricane Katrina Moment” – suggesting the vitriol launched against G. W. Bush in 2005 can be replicated to use against Trump for the Wuhan corona virus.

In the Washington Post, also on February 27, this appeared: “It remains unclear just how the coronavirus will play out – whether it will become Trump’s Katrina or, defying alarmist assumptions, prove a testament to Trump’s managerial prowess.” How nice to offer a more positive outcome, instead of the usual damning accusations where the president is already tried and convicted by the progressive press.

Paul Krugman of the New York Times cheered the apparent economic effect from the Wuhan virus scare with glee as the DOW started to fall, tweeting: “DOW 25,000!” He’s ecstatic it’s now at 23,000…

On January 31 in The Hill Joe Biden wrote, “This is no time for Donald Trump’s record of hysteria and xenophobia – hysterical xenophobia – and fear-mongering to lead the way instead of science.” As with usual comments from Biden, heads are still shaking, trying to figure out what Joe meant. Trump is definitely one who hasn’t been hysterical or engaged in “fear-mongering” – quite the opposite, in fact.

On March 12, Joe Biden’s campaign committee sent a letter, fundraising off the Wuhan virus. Then a Democrat Senate committee released a similar fundraising piece, profiting off a suspected Trump failure to “manage the crisis.”

As the Democrats’ impeachment effort died in the Senate, a new opportunity appeared; a new avenue to scandalize Trump: his incompetence in handling a national medical emergency – the Wuhan virus crisis. Progressive politicians and media types are excited for one reason: the Wuhan virus crisis can be weaponized against President Trump. waste.” Blame Trump for the spread of the Wuhan virus in the U.S., gleefully watch the economy tank, keep the media hype alive by predicting chaos and pandemonium, and wait for President Trump to fail.

Progressives think restricting freedom through quarantines, bans on foreign travel, and the cancellation of popular sporting and cultural events will bring public scorn on Trump – or so they believe. They will push Trump to cancel campaign rallies (which he did), thinking that can damage him. This may be the last scam they can run before the election (dare we hope) but this too will fail, because they don’t understand Trump and they cannot grasp the depth and breadth of his support. And the Left certainly doesn’t comprehend Americans’ will to prevail.

Some medical doctors are not as hyped about this new flu virus as the media and most politicians would have you believe. A doctor friend, when asked about growing anxiety, confusion, and the “fear factor,” responded with, “Turn off the television.”
