Reject the Abuse: Resisting a Dysfunctional Media – by Jim Bratten

It happened at last. Someone in the administration, other than President Trump, Kellyanne Conway, or Kayleigh McEnany, tossed it back at the obnoxious press. It was not only a refusal to swallow the false narrative, but actual engagement with the press, on offense. The example was inspiring. Push-back is a beautiful thing.

Richard (Ric) Grenell, former U.S. Ambassador to Germany and former acting Director of National Intelligence in the Trump administration, spoke to the Democrat Media in a press conference at the White House on September 4. He was there to hold a press briefing on an historic agreement that normalized relations between Serbia and Kosovo, after 21 years of conflict. It was another important breakthrough in peace negotiations, akin to President Trump’s recent achievement in the Middle East between Israel, Bahrain and the UAE (United Arab Emirates).

Of course, the “journalists” present were there to embarrass President Trump, so they asked ridiculous “gotcha” questions that had nothing to do with the historic event Grenell was there to discuss.

Fed up with the lack of respect and self-important grandstanding shown by the immature reporters, Grenell pushed back. “I don’t know if you can find it on a map, but this is atrocious,” said Grenell. “I have to tell you guys. You might be too young to understand what this issue is about. Maybe older journalists should step up and say, ‘This is a big deal; this is a big issue.’ I am astounded about what happens in Washington, DC, and especially in this room.” Then Grenell doubled down. “Maybe it’s too complicated an issue for you all.”

Astounded by their lack of knowledge, he administered a quick history lesson, explaining that the agreement normalized diplomatic relations and commerce between Serbia and the Muslim nation of Kosovo, which had been suspended since Kosovo declared its independence from Serbia in 2008, after a nine-year NATO air-strike campaign. Serbia and its allies now recognize the independence of Kosovo and, hopefully, future conflicts will be avoided.

After Grenell asked them if anyone had a “substantive question,” a reporter responded, “I don’t think any of us came here for a lecture about our questioning.” As the young, disrespectful reporter rudely spoke over him, Grenell explained, “I didn’t come here to talk about anything other than Kosovo and Serbia.” The questions, however, were all political, having nothing to do with either Kosovo or Serbia. Grenell told reporters that they didn’t “understand what is happening” outside of DC. “People aren’t listening to you anymore.”

We can hope that someone at the RNC, and elected or appointed Republicans, were taking notes on Grenell’s treatment of the press. There is no reason why Republicans must continue to accept abuse from every source in Democrat Media. There must be more resistance to the asinine, demeaning treatment of members of the Trump administration and Republican officials in general, from accusations of racism and bigotry to other personal attacks on their character. False accusations and rigid adherence to a radically left narrative by any reporter or so-called journalist must be forcefully rejected and thoroughly, publicly exposed for the orchestrated nonsense it is.

This includes the sudden termination of Newt Gingrich’s comments on a recent Fox News panel, when he mentioned George Soros’ name as the prime financier of Black Lives Matter. The RNC should have buried Fox News with objections to their bias, and questioned their “fair and balanced” credo.
