Tomes Announces Senate Reelection Bid

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

March 29, 2021 – (WADESVILLE) State Senator Jim Tomes announced today he is running for reelection to the Indiana State Senate in the 2022 election. Tomes, a Republican, represents Senate District 49, which is composed of Posey County and portions of Gibson and Vanderburgh counties.

“During these challenging times, Hoosiers want leaders who are effective and experienced,” Tomes said. “The pandemic, coupled with the political uncertainty on the national level, is causing a great amount of stress and insecurity. Job loss, reduced income, the unpredictability of schools and our children’s education, and the alarming erosion of our civil liberties – those are just some of the issues facing Hoosiers daily. Many need help more than ever before.  As your State Senator, I take my responsibility to help those facing these and many other issues seriously. I hope folks know I am always just a phone call away, and I am committed to doing all I can to assist them and listen to their concerns.”

A U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam war, Tomes serves as Chair of the Senate Committee on Veterans Affairs and the Military.

“During my time in the Army I proudly served our great nation and my passion for public service has not waned,” Tomes said. “It is an honor and a privilege to continue to serve as a member of the Indiana State Senate.”

A retired truck driver and former teamster, Tomes is ranking member of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Transportation. In addition, he serves on three other Senate Committees: Agriculture, Local Government, and Natural Resources.

He and his wife Margie have three children and four grandchildren. They reside in Wadesville.
