Teacher Unions Push Back – by Jim Bratten

Jim Bratten

The New York Post headline of July 6 read: “Thousands of teachers pledge to break anti-critical race theory laws.” If you are a teacher of the Left, say their unions, you can teach as fact all the theories you want, but laws don’t apply to you.

I expect, however, that those who wish to continue to teach in Florida will be wise to obey Florida law, particularly the law recently signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis forbidding the teaching of critical race theory in that state. He has an aversion to instructing children to hate because of race.

But teacher unions are “resisting.”

Randi Weingarten, president of the AFT (American Federation of Teachers), the second largest teacher union in the U.S., warned, “Mark my words, our union will defend any member who gets in trouble for teaching honest history.” Translation: Our obedient, robotic teachers have attorneys ready to defend their irresponsible indoctrination of children with critical race theory, which is NOT history.

Posted on the website of the largest teacher union in the United States, the NEA (National Education Association) was: “We oppose attempts to ban critical race theory and/or The 1619 Project.”

On the site was a provision to jumpstart a study that “critiques empire, white supremacy, anti-Blackness, anti-Indigeneity, racism, patriarchy, cisheteropatriarchy, capitalism, ableism, anthropocentrism, and other forms of power and oppression at the intersections of our society.” (If you try to find “indigeneity” or “cisheteropatriarchy” in Merriam-Webster’s, forget it. Leftists invent these terms.) The NEA trashes teaching of virtue or other values and their agenda is anti-capitalist.

One reason the AFT and the NEA have acquired this power over our children and our education system is that the Republican Party, over decades, has done nothing to stop it. Whenever it came to fighting Democrats over “cultural issues” or “social issues,” Republicans wouldn’t show up. “We don’t touch social issues.” The GOP has historically abandoned the fight for our children…

So here we are.

  1. Way past time to get our children’s education back to the level we demand.

Lincoln and Eisenhower warned us that we need to pay attention to our children’s education before they are trained in the wrong ways.
