Lt. Col. Allen West (U.S. Army, retired), former Florida congressman and chairman of the Texas Republican Party, has the problem of AWOL (Absent Without Leave) Democrat legislators solved.
If he were governor, he said, he would look at the empty seats on the Democrat side of the Texas House and declare these “officially vacated seats;” the occupants of which left their elected positions within the state, abandoned their responsibility and, therefore, quit their jobs.
Afraid of an upcoming vote, they left the chamber and essentially said, “We quit.” Governor West would then immediately call a special election to fill those vacated seats, since the Democrat legislators who once held them had fled the state with no notice as to when they would return.
Problem solved and message sent. This isn’t “hide and seek,” and oaths aren’t violated.
